Notas al Programa

Oviedo Cathedral will host a central event in this festivity, our Easter concert. Following the thread of our commitment to the revaluation of our heritage, the music of the Capilla Flamenca de Felipe II will once again be a central part of the repertoire. But, on this occasion, it will be accompanied. Oviedo Cathedral is an international symbol, an essential point on the Way of St. James, a crossroads of cultures and history. For this reason, Flemish composers from the 16th century, based in Spain, will fill the walls of the temple together with contemporary international composers. A beautiful and timeless journey, an eternal route, which aims to reflect the complex events that time has carved into the solid rock of Oviedo Cathedral. Each of the works reflects a page of a stony book set in its walls, in which we will humbly write new words. The first chapter will be made up of Renaissance works, evoking a past of splendour, in which the sacred walls of the cathedral were the natural habitat of this music. A perfect symbiosis between sound and architecture. Undeniably, the cross has an omnipresent symbolic power in Holy Week. Knut Nysdtedt, with his O Crux, describes heartbreakingly the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that took place at this time. The Regina Caeli will commemorate his resurrection on the third day and, thanks to Arvo Pärt and his Nunc Dimittis, we will be able to give thanks for the salvation of the Lord. Finally, When David Heard will make us understand the terrible pain of the loss of the son. Angel Gavela
