Tomorrow, Monday 23 March, Radio Clásica will broadcast at 17:00 the concert held on 31 January 2026 at the Co-Cathedral of Santa María in Cáceres, as part of the IV Atrium Musicae 2026 series.
The programme was dedicated to Officium Defunctorum by Tomás Luis de Victoria, one of the masterpieces of Spanish Renaissance polyphony and a landmark of sacred music worldwide. The performance brought together two distinguished ensembles specialising in early music: El León de Oro, conducted by Marco Antonio García de Paz, and Schola Antiqua, directed by Juan Carlos Asensio.
Presented within the monumental setting of Cáceres’ co-cathedral, the concert offered a reading of remarkable expressive depth and musicological rigour, highlighting the spiritual and sonic richness of Victoria’s work. The collaboration between the two ensembles provided a carefully crafted recreation of the liturgical repertoire, respecting the historical and stylistic principles of the Renaissance.
The broadcast will allow listeners to revisit one of the most notable events of the IV Atrium Musicae 2026 cycle, which continues to establish itself as a leading platform for early music programming in Spain.
