Parents of the Children LDO

Created in 2015 as a new addition to the choral project, Parents of LDO´s Children Choir aims to be a choir for relatives.

The aim of this group is to allow parents to enjoy singing and share incredible experiences with their children in the choral world.

At the moment it is formed by 30 voices and they are working hard to find their own style and repertoire.

Its conductor and founder is Elena Rosso.

Elena Rosso

She is the founder and conductor of the LDO´s Children Choir and  AURUM female choir, with which she has won several international prizes such as Tolosa, Debrecen, Varna, Torrevieja, Cantonigrós, Arezzo, Rimini and Montreux.

She is a singer and technical coach of “El Leon de Oro” from the very beginning in 1996. She has also obtained the award for “Best Choral Direction” at the “60 Guido d’Arezzo Polyphonic Contest” (Italy) in 2012 and at the «54 Montreux Choral Festival» (Switzerland) in 2018.

She is usually required to give choral conducting courses and workshops for conductors of children or youth choirs.

Marco Antonio García de Paz

Considered one of the boldest and most creative choir conductors today, Marco Antonio García de Paz was born in Luanco (Asturias), studied violin and later conducting at the Centro Superior de Música del Pais Vasco (‘Musikene’). His teachers include Peter Phillips, Gabriel Baltés, Johan Duijck, Lászlo Heltay and Javier Busto. 

It has more than 60 national and international awards in places such as London, Arezzo, Maribor, Toulouse or Tours. He has received the award for best conductor in the International Competition «Prof. Georgi Dimitrov» held in Varna (Bulgaria) in 2005 and in the «Internationale Koorwedstrijd van Vlaanderen» – Maasmechelen in 2007. (Belgium). It has been proclaimed twice winner of the «National Grand Prize of Choral Singing», in its editions of 2003 and 2006.  In 2008 he was awarded the Annual Prize of the Asturian Choral Federation «Axuntábense» for his contribution to choral art. The «Asturian of the Month» distinction of March 2009 of the newspaper «La Nueva España» also stands out. He has received the «Guidoneum Award» in 2011 and the «Serondaya» for cultural innovation in 2014 for the «LDO» project. 

Conductor-founder of the choir «El León de Oro» (LDO), with which he has performed throughout Spain, Europe, Africa or USA and Main Conductor of the Young Choir of Andalusia (JCA) since 2019.

Marco Antonio García de Paz is regularly invited to conduct numerous professional choirs such as the Coro de Radio Televisión Española (OCRTVE), the Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM), the Coro de Madrigalistas de Bellas Artes de Ciudad de México (INBA) or the Coro Nacional de España (CNE) in its satellite cycle. He has also conducted major groups in Slovenia, Greece, Italy, France, Sweden, Portugal, United States, Venezuela, Morocco, Norway, England, Belgium or Bulgaria, in addition to being frequently claimed to conduct throughout Spain.

Renowned professor, he has taught at the Milano Choral Academy, in Milan and at the Superior Conservatory of the Principality of Asturias. He regularly teaches seminars and master classes in several European and Latin American cities, as well as taking part in international juries around the world.

Among the festivals in which he has performed are the International Music and Dance Festival of Granada, Cycles of the CNDM, Festival of Úbeda and Baeza, Week of Religious Music of Cuenca, Music-Musika of Bilbao, Concerts of the Auditorium of Oviedo, Festival de Cádiz, Otoño Musical Soriano, Arte Sacro de Madrid, Early Music Morella, Festival de Aranjuez or La Quincena Musical Donostiarra.

He has worked alongside artists such as Leopold Hager, Friedrich Haider, Rosen Milanov, Pablo González, Pierre Cao, Paul Dombrech, Maximiano Valdés, Paul Goodwind and Peter Phillips.

Among his immediate projects stand out his appearances with Le Concert des Nations and Jordi Savall, Cor de Cambra de Granollers, Oviedo Filarmonía and Lucas Macias, Tallis Scholars and Peter Phillips, Festival of Granada, Cuenca and Aranjuez with ‘El León de Oro’ or the conduction of the Opera King Arthur’ of Purcell, in addition to commitments in Italy, Finland, Greece, Mexico or Taiwan. 

He regularly premieres new music by various composers and makes recordings for prominent labels such as Naxos Records, Hyperion Records or RTVE Music.

Peques LDO

Since its first years of life this children´s choir has been invited to many choral festivals in the region, as well as prestigious national competitions.

It has won first prizes in several national competitions such as the XXVII National Habaneras Contest of Totana (Murcia) in 2007, and the International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja (Alicante) in 2004 and 2008.

The Peques LDO Choir has been internationally awarded:

  • 4th prize in the 28th International Choral Contest “Prof. Georgi Dimitrov “in Varna (Bulgaria) 2005.
  • 2nd Prize in the 43rd Choral Competition of Tolosa (Basque Country) 2011.
  • 3rd prize at the Béla Bartók 25th International Choir Competition in Debrecen (Hungary) 2012, one of the most important Contemporary Music Contests in Europe.
  • 2nd prize at the 31st Cantonigrós Music Festival in Vic (Catalonia) 2013.
  • 3rd prize in the 9th Concorso corale internazionale Citta di Rimini (Italy) 2015.
  • 2nd prize at the 54th Montreux Choral Festival (Switzerland) 2018, Audience Award and Best Management Award.

It has collaborated  with professional orchestras of Asturias (Oviedo Filarmonía, Orquesta de “Los Adioses”) performing works such as “La Pasión según San Mateo” by J.S. Bach or the recording of “Otello” by G. Verdi, with the Orfeón Donostiarra.

It has also collaborated with the adult choir “El León de Oro” in the recording of two of their CDs (“Lux Aurumque” in 2003 and “Paxarines” in 2009).

Aurum

Its main objective is achieving the highest quality sound, through vocal and aesthetic diversity, as well as an emotional commitment with the public, thanks to the programs specifically selected and worked for each occasion.

They debuted internationally in 2012. Their awards include:

  • 4th place in the Béla Bartók 25th International Choir Competition in Debrecen (Hungary) in 2012.
  • 1st Prize in the category of Female Choirs at the 31st Cantonigròs Music Festival in Vic (Spain) in 2013.
  • 3rd Prize in the two categories of Polyphony and Folklore in the 46th Choral Competition of Tolosa (Spain) in 2014.
  • 1st Prize in Music of the Renaissance, 2nd Prize in Folklore and Special Prize of the Jury for the Best Direction in the LX Concorso Polifonico Internazionale Guido d’Arezzo in Arezzo (Italy) in 2015, one of the most important in the world and framed in the Great European Choir Singing Award.
  • 1st Prize in Sacred Music and 3rd place in the category of Equal Voices at the International Citta Competition of Rimini in Rimini (Italy) in 2015.
  • Mention of the public in the LXV Concorso Polifonico Internazionale Guido d’Arezzo in Arezzo (Italy) in 2017.
  • Honorable mention of Habaneras in the 62nd International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja in Torrevieja (Spain).

In 2014 they put on stage in the theater of the Niemeyer Cultural Center a show called KODAMA, where different arts such as music, set design, lighting and spatialization came together. Thanks to the collaboration of Ana María Pérez de Amézaga, Professor of Expression Corporal at the Superior School of Dramatic Art of the Principality of Asturias, this project has marked a new concept in the interpretation of choral music in our environment.

In 2018 they entered a new adventure with the show “Helladia or the bodies of Atalanta”, together with the company Zigzag Danza, where they showed their versatility for the gestural theater, under the direction of Rafael Ruiz.

El León de Oro

The group stands out for its versatility in terms of programs and has a variable geometry template, which allows them to offer all kinds of concerts with a wide repertoire ranging from Renaissance and Baroque masters to the most avant-garde works.

LDO has offered a cappella music at prominent Spanish festivals, various European countries, the United States of America and Africa, and it also maintains a continuous collaboration with important Spanish orchestras, with which it has carried out works such as Bach´s Magnificat and the Passions according to San Juan and San Mateo, the Requiem by G. Fauré, the Requiem by W.A. Mozart, the Ninth Symphony by L.V. Beethoven, The Childhood of Christ by H. Berlioz or Daphnis and Cloe by M. Ravel, among others.

The choir has been invited to the “Musika-Music” Festival, Religious Music Week of Cuenca, with a concert on its own and another together with The Tallis Scholars under the conduction of Peter Phillips, Logroño Ancient Music Festival, Ancient Music Festival of Aranjuez, International Festival «Sacred Art» in Madrid, «Bilbao Arte Sacro», two concerts in coproduction with the National Center of Musical Diffusion in Oviedo and León and the interpretation of the Coronation Mass of W.A. Mozart with the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, conducted by Leopold Hager.

Its greatest worldwide recognition was obtained in 2014 at the “London International a Cappella Choir Competition”, where the LDO won the first prize. The Grand National Prize of Choral Singing (2003 and 2006) also stands out, as well as the Grand Prize «Cittá de Arezzo», International Choir Contest of Flanders, International Competition of Tolosa and the International May Choir Competition of Varna (Bulgaria).

In 2019 the CD “Amarae Morti” was released, with the English label “Hyperion Records” with music by great Renaissance masters. This recording has been conducted by Peter Phillips, honorary conductor of LDO since November 2017.

In terms of education, since 2017 the LDO organizes the Masterclass of Choir Conduction, with the presence of prestigious conductors and students from different parts of the world. This training activity is directly linked to the intention of providing a service to the choral environment.
